301 Bobbin winder

Does anyone know how to replace the rubber ring on the bobbin winder of a 301? The one on the machine is old and rotten and needs replacing badly.

it sounds like a singer and if that is the case you go to a singer store and take the old one and they have all kinds

Just pull it off and replace it with a new one. Sew Classic carries them.

I purchase mine at sew-classic.com

It will kind of roll off of the winder. If it's brittle enough it will just crumble if you twist it. The new one will be really pliable, and you will just roll it onto the holder. A little tight fit, but that's how it should be.

I had one that was so dried out it cracked and fell off. I ordered one from Sew-Classic.com. Was not expenesive and had it within a few days. They are located in Ohio, I am in Kentucky. They mailed it First Class. It was specifically for my 301a. I highly recommend Sew-Classic, they offer several items for vintage machines, their prices are reasonable, there service is great. She refurbishs vintage machines and is very knowledgeable.

The "tire" on my 301 was so dry and brittle that it spit big flakes out at me every time I filled a bobbin. I got a new one at the independently operated sewing machine repair store. It didn't cost much. Even being brittle, the old one came right off, and it was easy to slip the new one on.

I wish all machine problems were that simple!
