301

I'm buying a black 301 in a cabinet on Sunday and it does not have a cord. What site is the best for buying parts for the 301's? I'm getting it for 30 bucks since it doesn't have the cord, so am I getting a good deal or not, should I offer them less?

That's a great deal but what cord are you missing? One of my 301s has a power cord and a separate one for the foot pedal. The others all have a plug with 2 cords, power and pedal. How can you make sure it works? Make sure the bobbin case is there. It is quite pricey to have to buy one. You can get cords from sew classic.com or even ebay. Sometimes, ebay is lots cheaper. I love my 301s.

You say that there is no cord. Do you have a foot pedal? If it makes you feel any better, I paid $90 for mine with the cords, foot petal (those in the know call it a foot control.) Sometimes if the machine is in a cabinet the foot control and cord is up underneath. Are there any "goodies" with the machine? Like feet, manual, zigzager or buttonholer. And MAKE SURE there is a bobbin case!!!!!!!!
I buy my parts from Jenny at Sew-Classic. She is very helpful and she sends stuff FAST! Here are links to cords and foot petals.

Good luck with your purchase. Please let us know how it comes out!

That is a great price for a black 301! I have 3 mocha machines but would love a black. I second in urging you to make sure the bobbin case is there. It is the same one used in a Featherweight, and originals can cost $50 and up. I got a replacement cord from Gllenn Williams: http://pages.suddenlink.net/joyof301s/glenn.htm

Offering less when someone is already practically giving it away, would not be something I would be comfortable with...

I've purchased from Glenn Williams as well as Jenny at Sew-Classic. Both give excellent service and are spot on when you need help. You can't go wrong with either one.

I'd love to see a photo of your machine when it arrives home!

People try it all the time. I think if you get one for under $200 you have done very well.
