301A in Black
I have a 301A in black. I thought I read somewhere that this was the last black machine Singer offered. Can anyone shed any light on the situation?
It seems like I've seen some later plastic machines in black. Maybe. |
You may be thinking of the 160th anniversary https://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/s...ng-machine.php
I don't know how much plastic, but they also did 170th anniversary 15 https://www.singer.com/170th-anniver...15-class-black Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. Not affiliated with off-site link(s) |
Singer is still making black, cast iron machines in India. Their line includes Singer 15 models which date back to 1885 if I'm not mistaken. Here's a link to a new Singer 15 in a treadle. Converting rupees to US dollars, it can be had for US $108.97. Shipping however would be a problem.

I'm thinking of selling the 301 locally and I want to have my facts straight. |
Found It
and at the same time the black model was the very last of the beautiful black machines with gold decals. This was a new era and Singer wanted to modernize the look; the black machines were old school. https://singer301.com/about/default.html Obviously, it's not completely accurate, but this is where I saw it. |
Singer does make a plastic machine for everyday use. One of the women that occasionally comes to a quilting bee I go to has one. I have no idea what model it is though. I think Singer was trying to cash in on nostalgia, just like they were by coming out with a "new Featherweight" a few years ago. Here a 301 can go for anywhere between $50 and $300 depending on where you buy it.
