301A hems jeans easily
Just wanted to give a SHOUT OUT! to all the 301As out there! Woohooo!!!
My 'young' machine's feed dogs were acting up when I tried to sew jean hems using a walking foot. After several thread breaks and no moving feed dogs, I moved over to the 301A....not a poster child for beautiful 301As...but she sews a beautiful stitch and purrs like a hungry kitty. That machine stitched through 3 layers of jeans and more importantly LAYERS OF THICK SIDE SEAMS (is that 6 layers?) like it was sewing through 2 layers of cotton! Beautiful, beautiful stitches without a hesitation in the motor! This 301A will now have it's own sewing space! Nan |
Awesome!!!

Yes, I love my 301's too.

I love my 301 also, I don't think you can go wrong, if you find one of these in good working order.

Good to know! I just got a 301 about a month ago but, other than replacing the foot pedal, haven't had much time to play with her. Hopefully next week I can get her all set up. I did notice that she sews so much faster than my FW!

I love my 301's too. Took one out to my daughter's home so when I visit I can "repair" things for the grandkids. Lo and behold I get there and granddaughter asked if I brought a sewing machine with me? Told her no - but there is one in the living room here. She needed a pr of jeans hemmed. No problem. :>) Mine are in cabinets and love to sew in the cabinets with them. Really a good machine.

Absolutely right - and I've done quite a few hems on the jeans.

I love sewing with my black 301, its my take along machine for classes and sewing groups.

A tip I've learned to help others hemming jeans without a 301 is. Pound flat feld seams down with a hammer prior to hemming, and use a denim needle.
