401 joy.
about a year ago i got this 401 tuned up. never put it back in the cabinet or touched it again.
i am working on a project that requires a silly amount of precision and my old entry level janoe is just HATING it. i thought the 401 was worth a try. i know you all know where this is going, so i will spare you the details. the only question left to ask is...do i begin again from the beginning of the project or just soldier on, knowing that the results will be less thani hoped for, and now less that i am capable of completing? dammit and yay all at the same time :) aileen |

I'd keep going and be happier that I found out about this brilliant machine at last. |
Keep going! It's a good life lesson to accept imperfection:p That's what I tell myself when I quilt. If it truly will bug you every time you look at it and you won't enjoy it then go back and fix it OR decide to give it away so you won't see it and it won't bother you. Don't be hard on yourself and enjoy your 401.

I agree keep going. The quilt police are not going to come and knock on you door! enjoy that beautiful machine - it's all a learning experience.
I dislike the word precision immensely lol!! |
I discovered the same thing, I bought a 401a and when I got her cleaned up and oiled, I tried her on a few pieces I had lying around, that was it, I put my expensive Viking away, now I only sew on my 401a. I love it!!

The 401a's are wonderful machines. I had one once. Got it all fixed up and purring, then my wife used it. Now it's HER 401 and don't have one any more.

hey! my janome is about 20 years old and isn't cheap plastic! (okay...it might have some plastic inside but it weighs a ton and has an all metal body and i love it so.)

Just got a 401A at an estate sale yesterday (my post I played then I paid). Runs like butter and woke up this morning hearing a buzzing sound. DH was using it. He mended the bottom of his denim jacket. He looks at me and says "You did good". I know.
