68 featherweight cabinet
Hi, I am new to this. I am looking to buy a cabinet for my featherweight machine but have no idea where to look or what kind of price I need to pay for one. Is there anyone who might be able to help me? thanks so much!!!

if you are looking for the genuine cabinet - I've seen them sell from $300 for one in bad shape to over $1,000. If you find one under $300 - grab it and run! If you want to pay the big bucks - they do come up on ebay occasionally.

Patience is the key.... to any of these special items. I do have one that I bought at an estate sale. I was there at 5:30 am to be #1 in line and did get a wonderful bargain. But, I haven't found another one locally, even at high prices. Good luck. They are pretty fantastic..... just love mine.

If you aren't picky about a vintage cabinet look at the reproduction cabinets. I have a couple of websites bookmarked at home, but I am at work. One offers the cabinet in several woods and stains, and they look quite nice. I can't remember about pricing, but they are less than the going price for the real deal.

You can buy cabinets (or plans, if you're handy) from here: http://bnddesign.net/plans.html I imagine there are other sources of reproduction cabinets around, too; this is just the one I had bookmarked.

Thank you for posting this, I bought a sewing cabinet about 20 years ago because I thought it was different and I had a machine that need a cabinet.
Now I know it is the one you just posted, never know the name, but did know it was for a featherweight. Thank you for helping me to know what I had. |
If you're anywhere near the Gulf forget it. Cabinets down here are pricey for the ugly ones in really bad shape. Unless you by a cheap cabinet and have a DH or know someone who can adjust one to the size of yours. I've just not been able to find any decent looking machines that warrant spending the price of a new one.

One of the most common tables for a featherweight is a folding wooden table, that has an place in it cut out for the machine. There is also a 'cover' so the table can be 'whole'. These tables are generally in bad shape if you can find them. As you probably know already the featherweight and the table were like this so folks during the depression could easily pack up their belongings. This was also the time of the dust bowl. I feel sure there are cabinets the you can use that may not have been for featherweights.
