99K Tension Problem

I think I have a problem with the upper tension on my 99K. I have had it apart and by use of a diagram I have put it back together, but my problem, if in fact I have one, is that when I get to the end of the seam and go to pull the thread away from the machine, the tension is so tight that it bends my needle and I have to rotate the wheel by half turns while pulling the thread to get it so I can cut it. The stitches are perfect so I can't figure what is making the tension so tight when I need to pull it away at the end of the seam.

Check to see if the upper tension releases when you raise the foot...it should. If not, open the front of the machine, it may need oil. You should see the tension release when you raise the foot. That would be my first step.
