Advice on featherweight

I just purchased a FW that does not have the hook assembly and needs cleaned before I try it. I do not think I would try to clean it myself and I am watching ebay, etc for a hook assembly ($$ so far). I would appreciate your input on fair prices for the assembly and the cleaning. I want to get "Baby" (yes I named her already) up and running but am watching my budget.
I have been watching this thread for at least a year and any advice will be appreciated.

Go ahead and try to clean her up. Just look at all that you will learn. Good Luck

Does anyone know how to replace the instruction book for a FW? Mine is a 1936?

Free manual here along with adjustment manual and service manual:

At the Singer website you can also download a free manual or purchase a reproduction manual

My 'go-to' website to find answers to FW questions is: www.novamontogomery.com

Hope Nova has posted answers to your questions in her TIP of the Month section. She now has an index which makes it easy to use.

(No, I am not affiliated in any way with Nova Montgomery and her FW business.)

Thanks to all for your advice. I am off to investigate your suggested sites.
