:D....and doesn't he look thrilled to have a photo taken of him using a sewing machine.

My DH's mother taught him how to sew. He often had to help maintain it. Found out the other day my cousin's husband who also was Navy had to learn how to use one. They were told since their mother was in the Navy they were going to have to learn to sew or quit tearing up their clothes. Love the photo.

Is it difficult to turn a hand crank and guide the material at the same time? I could probably learn to use a treadle but hand crank seems to odd.

That sailor is from one of the UK Royal Navies. You can see H. M. on his hat. I wonder which ship and when it was taken.

Nope, it's actually quite easy. I built mine from scraps so to speak and it works very well.

Not really. You have a lot of control. I love my hand cranks, and they are great for the DGD to sew with too - with a needle guard, of course!

That must be your little DGD in your avator! She is such a beautiful girl. You are very blessed.

I am converting a 66 treadle that belonged to my ex's grandmother to hand crank.

I spent 21 years in the Navy and that's where I learned to sew. Upholstery and canvas shop on a destroyer tender.

BarbaraSue 02-02-2014 08:54 AM
