Another Queen
 

though my other one is a New Queen . . .

This is an interesting machine, because it's basically a White, but does not look like any of the other White VS machines (on the outside). Someday when my paying job settles down, maybe I'll have time to research these more. For now I'm just acquiring what catches my eye. And I'm always attracted to the oddball ones LOL!

She came with two shuttles and 6 bobbins, and a set of attachments.

I have two more machines in trasit - a newer National that I talked my self out of buying, but the seller kept re-listing at a lower price until I couldn't resist any longer (it's the one with the large round plate) and one that was on my list - the green White 670 - so I'll have a machine just like the one my Mom had. I so regret that I got interested in sewing machines at a point in time when she wasn't able to communicate much.


I explained to my husband, I don't have too many machine, I just don't have enough room.

But we'll be working on fixing that problem this fall.

Those Queens are beauties. Macybaby I think you added to your display since i last saw a picture. It looks great!

The serial number on the back slide plate is 83703.

Caroline - is there somewhere on the machine that also has the serial number stamped? I know sometimes slide plates get replaced.

those are really sweet looking machines. Cathy, you said White based. is that because of the design and layout of the shuttle driver mechanisms?

This machine takes the White shuttle w pin and hollow bobbin (the bobbin winder has pins for the hollow part). It is very, very similar to my oldest White - the little Peerless model. I read on Needlebar that there is some debate on who actually made the machine, since it's like a White, but not quite.

It's got enough of the parts that I've found are unique to White - like the funny uptake lever and the way to disengage the flywheel. I didn't look at my "AG Mason" White to compare it, that one looks like what you expect a White VS to look like.

Here are some of the "points" that I've only seen with White machines. I know there is another rare mfg that also had hollow bobbins and a spindle in the shuttle, but I've not encountered one of them yet.


Anyway - here is the bobbin winder with the pin for the hollow bobbins. You can't put a non-hollow bobbin on this winder.

And the unique split uptake lever. White is the only ones I have like this. The later model rotaries also have this. It does not have a hole for the thread to go through like one would expect.

And the flywheel (showing the Queen and Peerless). it has this little lever that fits into a grouve on the flywheel, if flipped out - the flywheel turns independantly of the drive shaft. My "New Queen" also has this.

This includes having three pillars so these machines will stand up and function by themselves. Very few of the VS machines are like this, most will rest on their moving parts when not supported around the edge by a case or cabinet.
