anyone ever convert a straight stitch plate to a zig zag plate?

I've found several straight stitch needle plates that will fit that Necchi I brought home that is missing one. Seems the machines came with one as an "attachment" so they aren't that hard to find with attachment sets. DH looked at it and he didn't think he could figure out a way to widen the hole so it could be used for zigzag stitching.

I've done it with a dremel and small bit. But, it doesn't look as nice as the factory made one.

you'll be working a very very hard metal, I've never widen a plate, what I did do was make a slot in a long / tunnel bobbin that is under the spring.

using diamond bit in a dremel. whats called diamond bits are much cheaper than you may think

an other very usefull tool and cheap. at harbour freight for around $3 they have mini fill sets. perfect for redoing screws or finishing off that hole. buy several sets. you will use them

Those look like files - I'm not sure what a fill is.

a fill is what you get when your working on a sewing machine cabinet, taking a break , typing and hitt two ll's instead of one L and an E, then jump up and get back to work.

a wonderful thing about the human mind, every third letter can be left out of a word and the mind still understand that word .. ask Vanana

The files I ended up with ( HF) don't have the plastic handle, maybe a cheaper version ?? there handle is knurled , I recently found there handle also works as a file. They were $2.99, next time I'll buy no less than 3 sets.

Too late to edit my post. I have the diamond drill bits for my dremel and a tiny set of files like the pic shown. Very handy little doodads.
