Argh!!! I broke my tension spring

Man, I just can't win. I had my machine running smoothly but wanted to clean up a little behind my tension disk and the spring fell out. It was quite gunked up so I cleaned it too, when I went to put it back in, I think I must have put it in wrong, because it broke. I don't even know where to get a new one from.

Oooops!

If it's the top tension check spring you need Sew-Classic has some. They also have some of the cone springs too.

I am so sorry! :( I boo booed on my treadle a week or so back and boy was I bummed! Got it all worked out. Yours should be an easy fix it sounds like...just the waiting for parts stinks.

Fairly easy fix - lots of good info from ArchicAnnie https://plus.google.com/100348315852671109000 er Tammi.

if you're impatient or cheap like me you can try (temporarily) substitiuting a sprimg from the hdwe store and reshaping it.

I need a horror smiley face :p but that is about as good as we get here...
Jenny at Sew-classic is reasonably quick. Just order one. I think they are less than $2.

Unfortunately the ones at sew classic are not the ones I need. Mine is a flat circle thing with a little hook sticking off the side. Those all look like they have some depth to them. I have a sewing store near me that has vintage parts so I am going to check them out today.

Alaskahsm 04-17-2014 02:20 PM

SM? Is that singer model? Mine is a White Rotary. They call it the adjustment spring.

(s)ewing (m)achine.... post a pic if you can. I'm going to resuggest a trip to the hdwe store to find somethoing wound that can be modified. Or go to joanns or craft store for eire and make one. Or hobby store that sells model making supplied. or if it's dimilate to the White i just purchased from (G)ood(W)ill i can make one using whats on mine as a sample.
