the top was an adventure. it is heavier than the sewing machine.
the underside the topside. After removing the various lifeforms and their remains.... again surprise! Gold-work is uncovered! |

the Foot pedal (literally) is broken. The mechanism has clearly been repaired and had a portion re-fabricated in the past.
The good news is that the foot is completely devoid of paint so I can bead-blast it and braze it back together SOLID. Here is the assembly looking totally intact.... here is what it REALLY looks like. How about this... a completely steel Pitman arm, really hinged... Here it is cleaned up |
And to think it could have been a lawn ornament. That's cleaning up very nicely.

here is the tension mechanism... One of my favorite parts..
and I have not figured this one out yet... Ok, here is the picture that shows the gold on the lettering and a "full view". I will try to get a pic with a better background or drop cloth tonight. OK, that's FINALLY it for now... |
The flat bar sticking out to the right on the foot seems out of place. Is that an old repair or original? If it is a repair, are you keeping it or trying to get closer to original? I'm just curious, both options have their good and bad points. On my woodworking machines if a repair is well done I tend to keep it as part of the history. If it's a hack job, I try to fix it.

I will also need to bring the drive wheel and main bolt into work and determine the correct shim stock needed to take up the wobble due to wear. |
You're a fast worker Steve. If it was me, I'd still be unwrapping it. Beautiful machine and kudos to Macybaby and her husband for getting it to you.

Great job! I must admit I gasped when I saw the first photo. And who is the adorable little poochy that seems to be saying, I'd rather be going for a walk in the park than watch papa put together another machine!
