Asking price for Bernina

I have a chance to purchase a Bernina model 830 in a nice cabinet. Single owner. Looks very clean inside. They are asking $300. Is that a reasonable price?

Prices vary widely across the country. Bernina made it confusing by reusing the numbers, there are two 830s. I'm guessing that is the 830 Record, which is generally regarded as a very good sturdy machine. I think, especially with cabinet, $300 sounds like a good deal.

The computerized/embroidery model 830 is not so well regarded -- but because of it's features is still around 3k.

This one is not the embroidery one.

Bernina Recordd 830 - in good condition? I would consider $300 to be a steal for it. Especially if it still has "everything" with it.

Carrying case
Instruction manual
Presser feet and case/holder for them
Knee lift
Removable table (slides around free arm for when being used as a portable)
Power cords and control pedal

I agree. I think $500 would be a good price, $300 would be a steal if it's complete

I have one of those and if I could find another for that price I would snatch it up. Mine has been working like a tip for about 40 years. I had to replace one gear when it cracked but that was simple and I love that machine!

We have sold them for $450, so I agree that $300 is a steal! Especially with a cabinet.

Sounds like a great deal for you! Bernina is a fantastic machine.

Thank you everyone. Calling her back today. My only problem is fitting it into the sewing room. Something else will have to go!

I have two 830 Records - all mechanical except for the belt. A bit of oil and it is a trooper - love it better than my newer BabyLock. You can purchase a walking foot if it doesn't have one . Although it is very heavy, it is the one I take and travel with in our RV

I'm at that point also. I can't buy any more machines or furniture or dishes unless I get rid of something!

We went to see the machine. It is very clean but the foot pedal and knee lift bar weren’t with it. She said she would look for them. If she cannot find the missing parts, I can order them but I will try to get her to drop the asking price to compensate my expense. The machine was her mother’s and she remembered making clogging outfits on it years ago. Waiting to hear from her.

One can still use the machine without the knee lift.

The foot pedal is essential!

You can get a new Bernina cord attached to a new electronic foot control on Ebay for around $40. I wouldn't pay the $100 for the original, old worn out ones. The newer ones work just fine.
