Atlas 901 (blue, not pink)
 

Couldn't turn down the chance to get an Atlas today, although I was told it needs a new belt. Forgot to take a photo of the foot pedal ...it's pink. Has the bobbin case and one bobbin, no manual or other "extra's." Oh, it did come in it's case.

I read about the great "pink" Atlas machines but wonder if this will be a great addition or a "dud." I've got a serial # off of it" 208726 but have not found a way to date its mfg. year.

Sorry to tell you this, but this isn't an Atlas. It's just in an Atlas case with an Atlas foot control. This machine could have a hundred different names. Serial numbers on Asian machines are useless, there are no records to search like American machines. The only other color I've seen an Atlas machine besides pink is black and those are rare. By the time this machine was made, Atlas machines hadn't been made in some time.

Okay, that explains a lot! Google couldn't help me at all with this model & s/n. Now I know why! The man I bought it from said he would give me my money back if I didn't want it or if it didn't work. He told me he knew it needed a new belt and they were available. So, the Atlas case and pink foot pedal are certainly worth more than the machine, I suppose. Took pictures after I opened up the top of the machine, but I'm not sure I'll get them into this thread; might have to start a new post for that. Sorry your machine isn't what you thought it was. Are you going to try to get your money back or do you feel the case and foot pedal are worth it?

It may not be what you thought but it's probably still a good machine. As long as the camstack is good you should be fine. It's the sort of machine I look for for beginning sewers. Built in stitches and pretty easy to use. It also looks like you can choose the needle position. I wouldn't call it a dud.

I wouldn't call it a dud either - unless the gears are cracked. There is something about those old machines I do like.

Well, I took it back to the antique shop and explained my "buyer's remorse." Explained that I wasn't able to come up with any info. on internet with that model & s/n. Didn't want to have to purchase a manual (or be able to find one) and then the new belt. He was very good about giving me my money back. I couldn't leave without explaining all that I learned (here). Told him the Atlas case and pink foot pedal might bring him some money but wasn't so sure that machine would ever again bring him $50! He admitted he didn't know anything about sewing machines and appreciated my telling him all I had learned.

I also wrapped the foot pedal in plastic before taking it back to him and explained how placing an unprotected foot pedal on the bed of a machine could easily cause unsightly scratches.

Next time, I'll be sure that the label on a machine matches up with the brand label on the case!
