Stitch length is fine. Center homing Japanese machine.
Big clue is the zipper foot and it is adjustable. It has the same problem on either side.
Bobbin is in correctly. Every thing looks perfect. Freshly cleaned and oiled. New needle. Good thread. Problem feeding.
I've not run into this before that I know of.
Stay tuned.
Keep guessing...
I didn't get off easy either...

Is the zipper foot too far to one side so it's not over feed dogs?

The foot is not the right length for the machine and is not moving the fabric through?

Must be that zipper foot is too narrow.
I think it was a MW machine (I can't find it now) that had a real wide zipper foot and I remember thinking -- why is that so wide. I am used the narrow adjustable zipper foot.

Janey, I knew you would get it.
The feed dogs are short. There is nothing to feed until after material has been through the needle. The Singer works because even the short feed dog piece goes under the needle. The fabric only moves if it is over the feed dogs. If I had been using a wider Zipper foot... Maybe wide enough to go over the long teeth it might have been just fine. In the picture, you can't see the feed dog under the foot but it is just like the one next to the foot. The other long feed dog is not under the foot at all. See where the needle goes compared to the feed?
Thanks everybody class dismissed.

Thanks, Miriam. I will have to keep a lookout for those big zipper feet for those machines. I'm thinking that may have been the reason that I kept finding machines and/or attachments for a while that had three zipper feet in them. Probably they kept getting the narrow ones, and didn't bother to look for the ones that actually worked for their machine. I think some of the Kenmores, too, came with wide zipper foot and yes, there is definitely more metal behind those to be able to feed.

Thanks for the challenge. It was fun when it wasn't our machine and under a time limit.
