Bel Air Arrow Super Deluxe
2 Attachment(s)
Over Thanksgiving, I was visiting my DD in eastern Quebec. Her husband found this pristine machine for $2.00! The case is unmarred, too. I threaded it up and it sewed beautifully. I think one of the papers in the tray say something about 1959. It's missing the manual and I was hoping someone could help me locate the source for one.

I love those machines made by Brother. it is likely a clone of a Singer Lotus made in Germany but not marked Singer.
There may be an Atlas manual and should be the same works. Posting how much you paid for a machine could bite you if you ever decide to sell it. |

Very nice! I don't ever seem to find treasures like this for $2.00. Great find!

I found this website: http://pages.sewing-machine-manuals....923885272.html. They had some manuals.

Miriam I know it looks similar but I don't think that Bel Air was brother built.
caspharm, that's a great place to get a manual. Linda has more manuals than any other place I know of, and she goes to great trouble and expense to have the legal rights to sell them. If anyone ever needs a manual that she doesn't have listed just email her. She has many that are not yet listed. Cari |
That's a pretty machine! I have two Bel Airs, both black. One I haven't tried yet (bought it at the quilt show in March...would you believe a quilter put packing tape on the machine bed? I cried when that lovely finish pulled right off!). The other is the aluminum Bantam, a 3/4 size which makes lovely straight stitches, and which I will use someday when my DH gets afoul to building me a base. I may just drag out the table saw this weekend and turn it on - that will get him running!
Sorry, I rambled there. Anyway, great deal for your daughter! It should be a very nice machine for her. |
thanks for your help, everyone

Lovely! I tell anyone who'll listen to me that Quebec is the Happy Hunting Ground for vintage sewing machines! I'd like to spend a summer just roaming around the province, checking out garage sales and flea markets. I've bought a machine and an art deco cabinet on Kijiji, and the number of industrial machines for sale is incredible! Montreal used to be the center of Canada's garment industry, and you can sure tell!

Congrats on your great find! Terrific price too!

I found a similar body style on Google images - one is badged Domestic & the other as a Stradivaro 85. Maybe Toyota or similar? I typed Super Deluxe as a search term.

QuiltnNan - maybe your SIL will find one but do keep checking the Quebec ads for the 221 featherweight. Mine came from Quebec - it was in mint condition like it was never/rarely used and was a terrific price! She sews like a dream & I love it!
I like the Bel Air! Pretty colour!! I'm on the look out for a red and cream one or a red Arrow. |

Just to be clear, the machine on topic here is a Bel Air. Arrow is just the brand of motor on the machine, has nothing to do with the name of the machine itself. The red Bel Air is a beauty, one of only a few red machines that aren't re paints.
