Bernina 830 Question
 

I have a Bernina 830 record mfg'd in 1975 and I have a Bernina 830 Record Electronic I think mfg'd in the 80's. My question is: What is the difference from the Record 830 and the 830 Record Electronic? I hope someone has an answer or can point me to where I can find this information.

As far as I know the electronic part in the later 830 is a neelde up/down function in the pedal. There is a simple micro chip in the machine as well as the pedal, and it requires this particular pedal to work as intended. I have read there's ways to remove the electronic part and run it with a generic pedal.

The non electronic 830 is missing the needle up/dow function and doesn't use a different pedal. When you look in the manual the oil points and parts are exactly the same in every other respect.

The main difference is that the foot control in the "Electronic" has an electronic circuit board with a potentiometer that you can adjust from the outside. You know that the capacitor has gone bad when you can no longer adjust the potentiometer. The non-electronic has a carbon pile foot control.

The needle-up/down didn't come around until the 930.
