The blue 301A arrived, but with a problem

I am so pleased with how fast this machine arrived, and the paint job seems superb, but the bobbin assembly is not right. I've contacted the seller, but I'm posting here in hopes it is an easy fix. If I can get this fixed, I'll post some pics of my new housemate!

The bobbin case was out of the machine when I unpacked it (not unusual). When I tried to insert it, it wouldn't go in. The ring on the bobbin assembly on the machine is very loose and rotates. I have a Featherweight 221 with the same assembly, so I know this piece should be static. I also have a 15-91, which I realize has a different mechanism, but the inner ring on that is also static.

I'm attaching two pics showing the piece I mean. The lever I am touches rotates almost a complete circle, and is very loose. Is there a way to easily fix this or is it a serious problem. I've never taken a bobbin assembly completely apart before.

remove the needle plate. or loosen... raise that tab up to 12 o'clock.Reinstall needle plate so that the tab is captured by it. Thjnk I' m right when I say that should put you back in business.

It sounds like oldsewnsew has the correct solution. I recently had a similar problem when I removed the needle plate to clean the dogs and didn't get the bobbin assembly to line up correctly prior to installing the needleplate.

My husband says he's done this several times while working on the 301's. Put the needle plate on, look, cuss a bit and take the needle plate back off and line up the carrier, then put the plate back on.

I have had that happen with the Featherweight. Luckly the manual addresses the problem so it was no big deal.

Thank you all! She is all fixed and running beautifully. I'll post pics tomorrow as she just glistens in the right light. The seller also called and it was nice to talk to him and ask a couple of other questions. I paid more for this machine than she is really worth, but I've decided she's a work of art, and we often pay many $$ for something pretty that just sits around. All in all, I'm happy with the purchase.

I'm glad to see you're happy with the machine. I'm one of the enablers that thought you should get it. It may be more than the going rate but there is a lot of labor involved in a good paint job so I'm thinking most of the price went toward paying for that.
Enjoy your new machine. Nobody else has one exactly like it.

i think thats been the biggest reason for my finding 4 relatively inexpensive 221s and a 301.

bought a white featherweight that was sold because it would not sew. when it arrived, I had the same problem that you had. Simple fix!

So glad it was a quick fix Belfry. Bet you were worried those few short minutes! That's what I love about this group....to the rescue!
