Blue Painter's Tape Error
 

I don't have a 1/4 inch foot for my FW so I do what I have done in the past and used a strip of painters blue tape to measure off a 1/4 inch. You can imagine my surprise when I finished sewing with the FW and was cleaning it and oiling it to put away for a while so I could use another one of my many machines, I pulled off the painters tape and some of the gold decals came off. Has anyone ever had this happen before. I think I can still use this method but I just must remember not to let the tape go down as far as the gold decals. It is not really noticeable but these decals were in perfect condition.

If you read the directions on the blue tape you'll find it's recommended to remove and not let it sit more than X hours. We just had painting and floors done and we were very careful to remove it as soon as the paint dried as it will remove the finish off of floors and other surfaces. There are many versions of seam guides, 1/4" feet etc. on the market that are safe for the finish.

Sorry to hear that your machine got hurt. I wonder if there is a gold pen that you could maybe fill it in again....

Same here but next time just put a piece of plain paper on that part then put the painter's tape on top. Another thing you could use is go to a craft store and buy some craft magnet strips. They're about as thick as a credit card. They all stick together and wouldn't affect the machine. The magnets aren't that strong.

THAT is why I despise tape of any kind on a machine bed. I will never ever ever, not in million stitches, will do that to a machine.

I've got many choices of bed mounted fabric guides and 1/4" feet to use. The feet and guides are easy to find and cheap compared to a damaged machine finish.



Now, get some Tester's gold model paint and the smallest brush you can find. Touch up the boo boo and when that's dried, touch up the shellac with Glenn's method. Should be really easy.

I have a couple of gold paint pens (like markers, but with paint), because the colors are slightly different. I also have a couple kinds of acrylic gold paint, but I think the paint pens look better. I build up slowly when I use it, one tiny dot at a time.

I haven’t been able to get magnets to work very well on my Featherweight.

Where do you get the paint pens? I'd like to try them.

Aren't the FWs cast aluminum? Magnets won't stick to aluminum and will not be of use as a seam guide on these machines.
