Shuttle cases

I have several cases without machines, well I may have some but I really can't tell. How can you tell what shuttle case goes to what machine or type of machine?

pictures might help

I'm a bit confused - are you talking about round bobbin cases, or bullet shaped shuttles that the long bobbins fit into?

Since I've got machines that take 11 different shuttle styles, and others that take over 15 different round bobbin styles, I might be able to help match some up if you have pictures.

I'll get some pictures up but I wondered if there was a way to tell by size or shape. These are the bullet shaped shuttles for the long bobbins.

I've got one of each of the 12 that Boye sold, and some of the differences are rather subtle. I've not take the time to do detailed measures on them, but I did post the thread showing them all, so you can use that as a guide.

Also look for any stamping. I have several with White, New Home, Eldredge, Davis, Domestic on them, so they are easy. Some of the Boye are stamped with a #. One word of warning, Boye changed their number system after a few years, and I do have some with the older number on them. Such as 15 was White and 11 Singer, and after the change, 15 is Singer and 11 is White.

This thread has pictures of them (scroll down a bit) so you can compare. I can measure any that you want specifics on.

When you compare, don't be too concerned about cutout for the thread - angle and such. Or the exact shape of the tension spring. It does need to be on the same side, but some of that was "improved" upon over time, so it does not look exactly alike but they do fit the same machine. You also may have to consider wear, since the shuttle IS the hook, it's a wearable item, unlike with round bobbins, w here the hook is seperate for the bobbin case.
