I had the 401A...it had the cams for different stitches and all. Beautiful machine, I found for $20 then traded it for an like new in the cabinet 99K which I'm saving for granddaughter to inherit.

Grandmother's 403 is a wonder! First of all, the lady never in her lifetime bought garbage of any sort. And the 403's cover plate actually has had the groove on the front part of the slide plate worn away by the action of fabric moving over it. I have thr machine up in my sewing room and use it. Beautiful stitches!

I have it, the manual and all the appurtinances including the one that makes a saw-toothed cut at the fabrc edge while the machine is sewing a straight stitch. Yes, Grandmother liked toys for her "quality." Confession: I like them too.

I love my 401 slant. Paid more than $20 but in the desk cabinet with manual and attachments, bobbins and other day found a note under the bottom drawer of the cabinet as to who did the house calls for maintenance. Looked him up and he has since passed away. Got a call from the party who hosted the estate sale where I got her and they had some interesting paperwork they thought I might be interested in. Just different notes on projects she did. Mostly interior decorating. It was interesting. Her children didn't want it. Love my machine because I can do just about any kind of project on it. She did a whole house and upholstery. Whole ball of works!
