There is no on/off button. If the machine is plugged in you should be able to step on the controller and it will sew.

A lot of times I find thrift store machines that do not turn. You have to clean and oil them - lots of TLC and patience.

i have this machine! i like it a lot.

We just received one of these machines but no manual. So far i can only find one for $10. We are a small group that does charity sewing because we love to sew. Love to have working machines donated so gals that join us do not have to haul in their stuff. Does any one know where to get a manual that doesnt cost? Cant serm to get it off zig zag. Tia

Brother took down their vintage manuals years ago. There's no longer anyone working for Brother who knows spit about vintage machines. I have the manual on my desktop which is currently in storage but I know somewhere you can find it for free. If you're on Facebook it's in the files of the Vintage Sewing Machines (Non Singer) group.

To get the machine out of zig zag you just loosen the stops(the 2 little silver knobs) and set the stitch width to the left of them to zero. You should also be aware that this is a left homing machine so the needle will always be in left position, not in center position for straight stitching.
