Brunswick
I called on a Brunswick treadle machine on Craig's list and found out they hadn't gotten a call on it in 3 months. The catch is it is 3 hrs. away from me. By the pic it is beautiful. The cabinet is in excellent shape. It belonged to the lady's grandmother. She is guessing it from around 1908. She called today and said she is coming to her mom's for Thanksgiving and is only 14 miles from me and will bring the machine with them so I can see it. I told her I felt bad about them having to bring it and if I don't want it then they did this all in vain. She wants it gone so she can make room for new things in her room. She wants $100 or it and I am thinking about her $75 sight unseen. Is this a bad thing to do?

No. They really want to get rid of it, and you're not so sure you want it. It's okay to offer less, you're probably willing to do without...

Don't feel like you have to buy it since they are bringing it closer to you. I would offer $75 for it IF you really want it. Just do not let them make you feel guilty. And have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I've committed to many machines off pictures. I've made a few "mistakes" but I've not backed out of any of them yet, as in no case was it the seller's fault in misrepresentation. Many don't have a clue what they have . . .
I'm post kids, so I consider some of it "entertainment" money. There have been a few times DH and I have tried out a new restaurant, spent more than $75 and decided it really was not worth the money. |
