I sometimes find irons without the cabinets for about $25 here in NY. Folks slap on a crude top and charge $100 + downstate. Sadly the machines and cases are scrapped. Haven't been able to rescue any.

Wish it was the same here in the west coast. Hopefully one of these days I can find some.

Singerguy one of my project machines is a Singer 27 with no boss. I think I can make a boss to hang a handcrank from that won't damage the machine. The 27 has a hole on that end that I think I can hook the boss over. It'll probably be a month or so before I get to it. I'll post what I come up with when I get that far.

Let me know how it goes Rodney. I see that there's a hole but might be challenging to add a boss for motor but your idea is great and I will wait to see how you will do it.
