I thought this was just another 15 clone at first. I can't bid on it, the finances just aren't there with shipping but I would if I could.

They must have used a Sphinx model 15 as thier starting point.

Mostly I don't go for "Made in China" stuff, but I would make an exception this time.

be cautious, that appears to be one of the late 70's "made by singer in china clones" NOT the same as a REAL 15

I'm not sure it's a Singer made machine, but it is a Chinese made clone. I kind of like it. No motor so it was probably a hand crank machine put in a case too short for the HC so it's not there. Easy to get.

I agree with Joe. Don't think this is a Singer/China machine...I've seen too many of those. I think China manufactured these for China or some export. Looks nice but wonder if it has it's bobbin case.

The GW text says it's marked J-A 2-1 and was made by the Shanghai Sewing Machine Industrial Company.
I do believe what they have is a genuine Chinese made clone.

I told my wife I needed it ........... she did not agree :( .

Perhaps I mispoke... This looks just like the Singers that they made in the 70's in China. Once you make something in China, you can assume that other companies will be producing them as well. The border portion of the decal set looks to be the same as the singer "25". The sphinx design that they used for the 70's machines are more garish than the original sphinx decals.

Even the Singer sponsored version had very bad reviews, so either way, caveat emptor.

hey - I've got a hand crank that says "made in the peoples republic of china" too - I plan on cleaning that off as it's now on my 1923 Singer 66 Red Eye

Thanks for showing the butterfly machine on the Board. I bought it! It came with a foot pedal and no motor, so I added a Chinese-made hand crank, and cleaned and oiled the machine.

Sew well - a nice stitch. It's perfect for letting people try out a hand crank sewing machine!

Oh- and I'm a biologist who works with insects.

Nice machine, I wish I could of gotten it. Maybe next time.

I do have a Chinese made hand crank on one of my Singers and it was rough when I got it. I took it apart, cleaned it and greased the gears with Tri-Flow grease. After using it for some time it's finally smoothing out a bit.
