The Cam Thread

A couple others mentioned it would be a good idea to start a thread for cams. I think most of us already have learned the hard way that its really difficult to match up cams to a machine.

If you can, if you have cams and know which machine they go to, could you all post a picture (mugshot) of a cam from the side and from the top with a ruler for scale along with any info you have on which machine(s) it fits?

I'll go first with Singer tophat cams for 600 series Touch & Sews. they're the only type I currently own.

Sorry for the flash glare.
I measured it at 2 1/4" diameter. I believe they also work in 400 and 500 series machines and 700 series machines. 700 series machines also have a white version that doesn't work in the older machines. Please correct me if this is wrong.

Great idea! I'm anxiously hoping to find the monogram and buttonhole attachments and cams for my recently acquired Kenmore 158.18023. From what I've read and learned, not all monogram and buttonhole attachments for the 18021-18022-18023-18024 series machine will interchange/fit.

Ladydukes i responded to your pm. I see you do need cams. I'll try to get them today if I can. If you don't need them that's fine. Someone will.

I don't have any cams to post, but have looking for one of the antique machines with both type-writer-like keys and cams.

This thread should be sticky.

It needs a lot more information than it has so far to be stickied. Sounds like you're looking for a Singer 319? That's the only one I know with typewriter keys. I didn't know it takes separate cams too.

Rodney,

I have several non-Singer machines that use cams. Kenmores and others too. We're still cleaning up after the big storm last week. Our basement flooded and ..... well, no serious damage, but it's still drying out and things are stacked every which way. As soon as I can can get to it I'll try to do close ups of the cams and machine for the thread.

The Singer 319 is the only Singer I know of that has what is called type-writer keys on top. It also uses flat cams mounted on the side. Very interesting machine. No where near antique yet, but definitely vintage.

It was on my on my want list before. I like the keys. I didn't know it also uses separate cams. Now I want one even more.
I already passed on one 306 because if I can have only one in that series I'd rather have a 319-or even better- a 320. Yes, I know, why only one? Space requirements and a wife who puts up with my ways but who doesn't see why I need so many and is pretty sure I'm nuts.

Sorry to hear about your basement and the storm. I don't watch the news and wasn't even aware until now. It's the last thing you really needed to deal with I'm sure.

No rush. Your basement is far more important than this. I know I'm asking for a commitment of time and effort from people to take the pictures and post them. I just hope this thread takes off and people here can build a good database for cams for themselves.

I too hope it takes off. I often find boxes of cams around town but no idea what machine they go to. With this thread I would have some idea.
