Can you guess the make and model of this?
 

Ok, I actually DO know what it is.... (Otherwise I would not have bought it!)

However when I took this shot it was unusual enough to merit the "Can you guess" game.

I have no idea, but I know it's different to model Singer model 12. Fiddle base models doesn't turn up that often. Is it a German transverse shuttle? Very neat and simple construction under there.

Mickey2 - Yes, different from the Model 12, but it IS actually a US maker.

Is that the wide flat belt on the lower right of the picture? Don't you have another machine that uses the flat belt?

Note the regular hinges, not knife hinges.

Did you find any worn thread paths? I have been looking for a patent, but can't seem to find one that would indicate threading. I did find the one from '52 for the tension and that seemed to indicate it was inside against eccentric looking wheel. One of the pictures it almost looked like it went up further than the top. Is there a hole in the needle bar? Just thinking out loud ;)

It looks like a very deep base.

Yes, it is the 1964 Singer Letter A that preceded the New Family!

Here is the upper "tension" assembly. Still trying to figure out how to adjust her to get a decent stitch.

Very complex tension. Reminds me of a Pederson bicycle frame and hammock saddle.

I am no sure the thread should be in the holder for the thread guide. Is the thread in the spring on the faceplate?

The Smithsonian has a photocopy of a manual, but it has not been scanned. You may be able to request it.
