CL listing for Damascus Treadle
DH surfing CL again. Found a Damascus Treadle for $60. Looks dirty but decent. Is a Damascus something I would want to add to my collection? Haven't found much info on them. Know about Damascus Annie and her yahoo group, but I don't want to join if I'm not going to own one. I have too much to learn about the machines that I already own. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, DollyO |
I think it all depends on what your plans are. Are you just wanting something to display? Are you looking for something to sew with?

Probably display at this time.

Those display nice. For sewing I would prefer something else.

I have one that belonged to my Great Aunt Mae - 1925. I used it a lot when I first got it and if I make a quilt by hand I use it to sew the binding on because according to the Amish it is still considered being hand made if you use a treadle machine. They were sold by Montgomery Wards - it was my understanding it was the MW brand - but I cannot be sure. My grandmother had that one (because Auntie Mae came to live with them towards the end of her life) and she had a Singer which my great grandmother used, she was a seamstress and milliner. I took the Damascus because it had the book and some attachments. My aunt still has the Singer.
