Classic model Z
 

I was recently given this machine that had once belonged to my grandma. It says it is a Model Z super Zig Zag made in Japan. It is badged "Classic". the only number I have found is stamped Z52252. It came in a cabinet and I was told it no longer had a foot control. Once i had it at home and looked it over, I discovered the "foot control" mounted on the inner right side of the cabinet and was actually a knee control. Does anyone have any information about this machine? Age? I am guessing 1960's?? What a pretty little machine! Being that it belonged to your Grandma makes it extra special. I have my mother's machine and my grandmother's and treasure both of them.

In 1956, my parents gave me a machine (in a portable case) that looked just like your machine. It was called "Morse Super-dial). I had it at college and used it for my Home Economics classes. It did a zig-zag stitch. I remember that I did not like it very much and traded it for a Singer 401A in 1959. I still have that machine and love it.

My first impression was "That looks like a Morse". My Morse fotomatic was made in Japan by Toyota, I don't know if all the models were made by the same manufacturer, but it's a place to start. Google Morse sewing machines and looks at images to see if you spot one that looks like yours.

What a beauty. Lucky you both because it was Grandma's but also such a wonderful machine. Everyone covets the blue ones.
