Coin slot screws

I was surprised yesterday when I went to take the faceplate off a Singer Stylist 543. None of my screwdrivers would fit. But a coin would. One more tool for the toolbox. Singer 301s have a similar but tiny curved slot in their take up arms. Anyone know of any others?

The Stylist followed me home from a garage sale. We bought a couple things and then I saw it resting my a home dumpster. I asked and they gave it to me. My, if it isn't the loudest thing. Oiling started, huge dust bunnies out.. It runs and ZZs but I have not threaded it yet..

Interesting. My father rarely used a screw driver as his tool of choice was often a butter knife. Used to drive my mother up the wall. 😂

Not surprisingly my Stylist 534 has the same screw, although somehow I managed to use a regular screwdriver on it.
The machine is noisier but sews very strongly, never had a problem with it.

I keep a nickle in the sewing box for my BL/brother machines. Works well!

I have kept a penny and a dime in my sewing machines for so many years. Something I learned as a kid with my first sewing machine. My dad showed me this trick because it was much easier to remove many of the parts that way. Even the small screw drovers they send with newer machine are still to large for easy removal of the surface parts.

Don't forget the dime, to set feeddog height!
