Converting a portable to cabinet

Is it possible to take a portable machine and put it in a cabinet? I'm watching what I believe is a 15-90? clone on goodwill. I keep leaving her but every day come back to check the bid, hoping that it's too high for me :-) but so far it's still in my range.

Anyway, IF I decide to bid AND I'm successful, I'd like to put her in a cabinet.

If you can find a cabinet to fit her, then yep! You can put her in a cabinet! :)

My singer 401A came as a portable and I had it put into a cabinet.

Well, that settles it. Going to bid on another machine I don't need :-)

Lets see, winning bid + $33.79 (shipping to Phx - 85017 zip ) = too much IMNSHO.

Some of these GW locations are literally ripping people off with the shipping costs. This one, those in CA and some in ID are the worst.

That said I was considering bidding on it till I saw the shipping. If you get it how about selling me the case?

Oh, and it's apiece of cake (Double Dutch Chocolate with Devils Food Chocolate icing please) to put a portable in a cabinet. I do it all the time when I test run those with no motors. I stick 'em in my #1 treadle and run them till I'm sure they work.

I was watching that machine, too. It's definately a nice 15 clone. I won't be bidding on it, though...I already have a 15 in treadle and 2 electrics waiting for work. :-)

Really? You’re kidding right? A 38-pound parcel the size of a sewing machine from Spokane WA to Phoenix AZ?

I’d expect to pay at least twice that amount, if I wanted it to arrive in one piece...

CD in Oklahoma

No I'm not kidding. I've won a bunch of machines on GW and most of them average about $25.00 ± for shipping. The price of shipping doesn't seem to correlate to weather or not the machine reaches me in one piece or many pieces.

If I bought a machine with that case, my next project would be finding a cabinet or painting the case.

J Miller 04-12-2012 09:37 AM

It's the case I'd like to have, just as much as the machine.

I've got two cases I'm going to recover. One will be glamorous black, the other one ...... we'll I haven't decided yet.
