Coolest MN A treadle table I've ever seen!

I know many of you have way more years and experience in the vintage sewing machine world than i, so you may have seen this. But I hadn't and I thinks it's gorgeous. Wish I was a tad closer than 4 hours and a bit richer. I would snap it up in a heartbeat! Anyone own one of these?

Check out that price too! $21.95? Yowza! Now that's what I'm talkin 'bout! It does look like the table top to this one for sale might be missing. It isn't in the ad....but then you never know.
|
isn't that pretty.
makes me want to get out the hammer and nails. Then work over the kitchen table.. keep in mind way back when, That 21.92 would have bought you a horse, a brand new rifle, and a bag of corn seeds , enough flour and sugar to eat for a month. |

If you flip that, $21.95 in 2014 has the same buying power as $0.94 did back in 1914. CD in Oklahoma |
It's been listed for some time - I saw it before the last time I made a trip, so that was a while ago. If it had the top I'd go for it - but even as neat as it is, I have to remind myself I don't need to collect everything!

Didn't someone just post one like it a couple days ago?
Rodney |
Yes Rodney, it's the same one. It's on the Minneapolis Craigslist. I posted it on the thread where we were talking about the Minnesota E that I recently bought with the very small, basic wood side treadle. Jon brought up that there was a really neat fancy library table treadle for the Davis machines too.
I'm heading into the Twin Cities this Friday, but I really need to stop picking up machines/cabinets until my building is done. |

no need to apologize - I posted in the middle of a different thread so many may not have seen it - and this one is worth seeing. I am sorely tempted - I just sold one cabinet for $100 so I could talk myself into saying this one would only be $200 and that is a price I can live with . . . I've still got some time to decide. I had seen the advertizement before, but this is the first time I've seen an actual cabinet. Kind of wondering how hard it would be to make a top for it. Though if I put in with the collection, the machine could just stay up.

my CL just offered a huge stack....10+ ft high of free old pallets. I have no idea what they are made of now. Probably cheap pine. |
I was thinking - I pulled quite a bit of oak out of the farmhouse, some 8x1 baseboard that is really nice, tight oak. Not quartersawn, but the house was built in the early 20's so it's closer to being contemporary. And at least I know it's well dried and not going to warp up on me.
I suppose about the time I talk myself into buying it, it will be gone. But that is OK too. Besides, something else I was very interested in at $225 is gone, so now I don't feel I need to save my money for that. It was a large lot of embroidery thread. |
That needlebar picture looks like that is the base top, and someone removed it and filled in the middle to make it solid and put it back on. It does not look like there is a removable cover over the top. I've seen that done several times to other cabinets when someone liked the "table" and wanted to use it as such.
Maybe I should get this one just to make sure something like that does not happen to it. :) |
Ooooh! I want to get ahold of it and take some old English oil to it! It would be spectacular!
|
Well, I broke down and sent a text message, so we'll see were it goes from there.
|
If it's still there Saturday -looks like it will be coming home with me. It's going to be a very nice addition to the "Machine Shed".
|
I hope you buy it !!!!!!!!!
That needle bar picture, blow it up and look at the left front corner of the top.. note the thickness, along with The top piece has the opposite routing of the bottom piece Then on the soon to be yours , note the holes in all 4 corners to locate the top ( hold it in place) needle bar pic, shows the same 4 spots yet they look like nubs , top of the dowels, and the routing on the edge is facing up. so when the top is on, the lips of the edges are laying against each other |
i don't know if my other message went through. i don't really do forums so forgive me if i repeat. I found one of these exact machines at an antique store today and my cousin bought it for my daughter for $148. The cabinet is in excellent condition. The machine needs a belt and a treadle arm. I am just trying to find out any information I can on the machine and would appreciate anything you can pass along. Thanks!
|
Looks like a great set up. The arm from the treadle where you put yout foor to the drive sheel is call a pittman arm. Many sewing machine stores carry belts, but You'll hlave to trim it to size. Welcome aboard.
|
catfish, I got your measage, and yes, I did get this machine.
we just had a discussion about it over on the Victorian Sweatshop Board. Someone else recently acquired one and was having trouble with getting the hardware to fold up. |

I think those tables are really neat. I don't have room nor $ for one like that. I haven't seen them too often locally. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
