Could you help me with this Singer Model 28 date of manufacture?
 

I now count myself as a collector of vintage and antique sewing machines. My first was a Singer Golden Touch and Sew that I bought new in 1969 or 1970. Wish I had the sales receipt. My second Singer was given to me by a friend in 2012. It is a Singer Model 27 Treadle, serial # K474456. My third was a Singer 221 Featherweight manufactured in my birth year. My fourth and the one I want to ask for help with is what I believe is a Singer Model 28, Serial # C5278775. Singer says produced beginning 1908, ending when WWII started. Would any of you have any info or a website that would help me get a bit closer to actual manufacture date on the Model 28? Any help will be appreciated.

I can't tell for sure from the picture but it looks more like a model 27 to me. Is it a full size or 3/4 size machine? The 28 and 128 were 3/4 size and the 27/127 machines were full size. Yours appears to be missing the belt guard and bobbin winder assembly as well. If it is a 28 in a treadle that would be a really neat find, I think the 28s were mostly portable machines.
My understanding is the records for the German made machines from that period were lost or destroyed during WWII.
I have a German made model 15 I can't get an exact date for either.

I went and measured the machine. The base is almost 14.5" long from left to right edge and it is almost 7" deep. The website http://www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/28/ has a wonderful chart on it that has helped show that I was wrong about the model. This is a 127 and I am coming to this conclusion due to there being no mounting point on the column for the bobbin winder in the low position. The other 27 that I have is the same dimensions, but has a mount built into the column where the bobbin winder is attached, about 1.5 to 2" above the bed level.

Sorry I was confusing. This is all new to me and I am learning quickly. I have spent hours trying to decipher what the machine was, and came to incorrect conclusions. I believe the belt guard is attached to the bobbin winder.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can't believe the info was actually out there in cyberspace. Only someone who has an orphan machine with no birthdate would understand this, but I feel like I got an early Christmas present. Whoo Hoo! I have saved the that file on my computer. I have been searching high and low on the Internet, for over a week to find out what type and any info about this machine. Between you and Rodney, I have learned more in 1 short afternoon than in the week. My deep appreciation. Now to get it cleaned up and usable.
