How fun is that!! Did it come with the crinkle as it's original paint?

Monroe 03-16-2012 08:18 AM

I didn't know there was such a critter!

kountrykreation 03-16-2012 08:27 AM

Yes, the serial number indicates it's birth date in the original production run of December 5, 1939.

That machine is so cool! Very tough looking for being so tiny. I thought I was lucky finding a blackside. Happy sewing.

It's a beauty! Not sure what the crinkle means!! Are they used for taking to classes or do u use them at home too?

kountrykreation 03-16-2012 10:01 AM

I don't use this one. However, it does work. Crinkle is a term for the matte black rough textured paint. These do not have the standard decals as do the shiny black finish machines do. These do however have 'ridges' that run the length of the bed on front/rear. They're are rather hard to run across.

She is gorgeous!!

Awesome....I was reading about these. I'll have to go refresh my memory about them.

I've read that the fw with the crinkle finish were made for the military.

Does the "crinkle" have a smooth finish so the fabric can slide? Beautiful machine. I love mine, she was born in 1937.

Mariposa 03-17-2012 07:32 AM

Neat to see a "Crinkle" one up close! :)

Talk about good shape !! Congrats - I have never heard of a crinkle finish FW - lucky find.

KatFish 03-17-2012 04:56 PM

Congrats on your awesome find. Thanks for posting a picture so we can all see what one looks like.

I was told in Paducah (by a vendor who always has parts for FWs and english needles etc) that they were made for the military to use during wars. The sun didn't reflect off the finish thus alerting the enemy of our location.

Rumbols 03-19-2012 04:47 AM

Congrats. Didn't know they made them like that. What fun.

I didn't realize there was a crinkle FW. I love the crinkle finishes. I have the "godzilla" Singer 128-23, and a White Rotary with a crinkle finish.

Thanks for sharing pictures. I've never seen one before. I especially like the view behind your machine. It looks like a lovely place to live.

Thankyou. It is a nice place to escape to, after working in the city all day.
