Curious about shuttles

I have never used a shuttle style machine but my dh's treadle in the basement has one. Do they hold much thread compared to a conventional bobbin? They appear to be so skinny that I imagine they would run out of thread quickly.

They don't hold as much thread as my Bernina bobbins but I just load 2 and can sew for quite a while. I love my Bernina but I also love my Singer treadle.

Abou 1/2 to 2/3 depending on the long bobbin type. Earlier ones lok Singer 12's are at the low end while Singer 127's are at the upper end.

That is why many have two spool pins one for sewing one to load a bobbin at the same time.

If nothing else wind a regular bobbin, then wind it on to your shuttle bobbin and see how much is left over.
