Curious, White older model

I was unaware that White made a machine with godzilla finish and raised relief on the body and carving? on the bed. I kind of like the look of it. Missing plate, wonder how hard to find one.

I like the looks of that model too. Do a search for embossed White machines here. Not the most common model but not rare either. I've seen several since I became interested last fall. IIRC they made an embossed one with a bronze finish as well. That one is far less common.

Yeah those are pretty interesting, I debated on one and it slipped away. I think, but don't know, that the plate is the same as for Family Rotary. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

That is a very pretty machine.

Ummm. I don’t think so on this particular machine on the St. Louis Craig’s List.

The machine shown appears to be an embossed Model 31, which is different from the embossed Family Rotary. An easy way to tell them apart is by the serial number when you can get it. The model 31 SN will begin with “31X”, and the FR number will start with “FR”.

The two machines look very similar, but the T-shirt plate is one of the differing features. I think that the plates will interchange between a Japanned FR and an embossed FR, but I don’t think they will with a 31. It’s smaller and has a different shape.

the shuttle cover plate should not be hard to find, but if they are different than make sure you know which size you need. I see these plates and other White parts on ebay very often. I would not hesitate to pick up a nice White that is missing that plate - not like some that the only way to find a plate is to buy a donor machine.

Glad knowledgeable types are here to help...as I dont really know White from Whong. ;-)

I'm resurrecting this thread to ask if there are any functionality differences between the white FR and the white 31. Were they manufactured at the same time?

Can't answer your question, but I can share a front of a 31.

I was trying to decide between a White 31 and an FR. I ended up getting the 31 because the FR had been sold. One question I have about this machine: in every picture I have seen, the top of the presser foot bar is rounded and matches the top of the needle bar. On my machine, the top of the presser foot bar is flat and has a tab which can be pressed to relieve or increase spring tension on the foot. What is this feature called?
