quilt addict 06-29-2011 09:17 AM

Thanks Charlee, I have a whole list of Whites that I would like to try and date.

Painiacs 06-29-2011 09:45 AM

How long u been dating? Is it serious? Lol.

Charlee 06-29-2011 09:47 AM

Just since yesterday Painiacs! But yes...I think I've met the machine I'm going to marry!! ;)

This guy's (gal's) dates are a bit off tho...the serial number for my machine shows on his list as 1928...but I just called White (800-446-2333) and they tell me that she was made on July 18, 1912 in Cleveland, OH

Charlee 06-30-2011 06:26 AM

Ok...so the guy's dates are still off, but better than what I was told yesterday!
They gave me the wrong date when I called! I knew that from this list, and what I had found elsewhere that these machines were dated 1928...and it seemed odd to me that the machine would have been made in 1912 with the motor being patented in 1927. Aftermarket maybe? No....didn't think so...seems to be intregal part of the machine, with the way the bobbin winder works. So I called back this morning and questioned her again. (Got the same very nice lady)
She apologised...and told me my machine was made in 1934 in Cleveland.
I feel better now! It bugged me all afternoon yesterday!

oarai 06-30-2011 07:51 AM

Popping in to make a comment about how long you've been dating, only to see I've been beaten to the punch! Clearly I need to be more on top of these things.

Anyhow, that's really neat! How interesting, having a machine that old.

Greenheron 06-30-2011 07:58 AM

Oh, I'm already married to a vintage DH.

Charlee 08-27-2011 04:59 PM

This White machine that William brought home to me today is older than I thought... seems to have been made in 1919 from what I can find on the web...I'll call White on Monday to be sure. :)

Poor old thing...at first I thought I didn't want her, but the more I look at her, the more I think she needs to stay!

mymsmess 08-27-2011 05:13 PM

Wekk don't give up on "the ole bird"! Let her stay!

deplaylady 08-27-2011 07:43 PM

Chart was right on with the date that I was given when I called on the phone - 1922, Cleveland, Ohio.

I have a white rotary fr 359884. Trying to figure out the age of it

That link has been changed since this was posted 8 years ago. If you will either start a new thread and post a photo of your machine or just post it here, you will probably get some help.

You will need to reduce the size of your photo for it to post. I usually reduce mine to 96 dpi and have no trouble posting. You can use several different programs, but Paint comes installed with Windows. It's under windows accessories.

Welcome. It can be very difficult to determine how old some of these machines are.. Are there any patent dates on the plates near the needle? There have been some people that have gathered information from a variety of sources, including paperwork that came with the machine.

From my understanding, the "Family Rotary" model of White sewing machines were produced from sometime in the 1890s to the early 1920s.

After looking at http://www.treadleon.net/WhiteSM/whites.html I'm wondering if there are six or seven digits on your machine. It looks like some of the six digits are out of sequence.

I have a White Rotary machine and the serial number starts with 43X......
I tried calling Viking and they refuse to date the machine for me. Does anyone have any idea what age this machine might be?

Sculptured lamp housing, friction wheel drive, godzilla finish, blond cabinet all point to newer. But I've never chased dates on my Whites. Yours is earlier than the ones with two twist knobs for stitch length.

my pretty one

I love the scroll pattern on yours!

There is a bronze one of the same design that is even prettier.

tension assembly pic if you need it. Is yours stitching?

shybug06 11-12-2019 08:54 AM

Thanks for the photo! I just recently purchased this machine. I haven't played with it much yet. It does stich, but sticks some. I'm hoping after some TLC it'll be working better!

Oil everything that moves... or should. Good luck.

Welcome.

As you have probably noticed there isn't a good list for this model of White machines. I was able to call (four or five years ago) when I got my 41X and was given a date of 1940. I also have a 43-NNNNNN but without the X next to the 43 and it came with a guarantee dated 1955. I'm not sure I've read the differences of those with a "X" and those without. John got an 11X (about four years ago) that was dated 1933. Not sure that is much help, but that is the information I have.

I also downloaded https://www.singer.com/sites/default...c-book-13-.pdf that I think is close to the manual for my 41X and 43

Thank you for your information! Appreciate it!

I was also curious what differences there might be between machines with and without the X.
