I would be very careful about cleaning that machine. You are already down past the shellac in most places. The filmy areas is the old shellac. I wouldn't use any chemical cleaners on it either. Just sewing machine oil and cotton pads or balls. After that read Glens tutorials on cleaning the finish on the old machines. { http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...s-t186522.html } Oh and that green pseudo antiquing .............. ugh. I do hope you're gonna eventually get rid of that and put a proper finish on it. It would be soooooo much nicer. One more comment, be careful how much weight you put on the cover when it's open, too much weight will pull the screws out of the wood. Joe Rodney |
an interesting link I found, it's about cleaning and restoring a Davis VF, but the means of doing so might make some you twinge, http://blog.ninapaley.com/2013/10/31...d-restoration/ I have 2 of them that I'm going thru now, one needs the treadle foot and pitman arm, the other will remain electric. They are neat, wish I could find some attachments.

Here's the attachments that came with my machine...think I'll just hang onto them for now. Thanks for everyone's comments. I will try to follow the cleaning instructions.

Here is my set

These is the complete set listed in the NVF manual I have - so you'll know what you are looking for. I see them come up on eBay occasionally, rarely listed as NVF though - usually just with an assortment of other attachments. |
