[QUOTE=SteveH;6586452]1. Vertical feed still exists, we call it a "walking foot" now. Most use an attachment rather than full time. Some upper end machines have walking feet still.

But does any other machine not have feed dogs? This seems very unique.

It's quite common with industrial machines.

I would be very careful about cleaning that machine. You are already down past the shellac in most places. The filmy areas is the old shellac.
I wouldn't use any chemical cleaners on it either. Just sewing machine oil and cotton pads or balls.

After that read Glens tutorials on cleaning the finish on the old machines. { http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...s-t186522.html }

Oh and that green pseudo antiquing .............. ugh. I do hope you're gonna eventually get rid of that and put a proper finish on it. It would be soooooo much nicer.

One more comment, be careful how much weight you put on the cover when it's open, too much weight will pull the screws out of the wood.

Joe is right the shiny areas no longer have their shellac clear coat. If you keep going you stand a very strong chance of destroying some of the decals and they're in beautiful condition on your machine. If you're not comfortable with Glen's french polish method to bring the shine back just leave it like it is. The old shellac isn't hurting anything and is still protecting your decals.

an interesting link I found, it's about cleaning and restoring a Davis VF, but the means of doing so might make some you twinge, http://blog.ninapaley.com/2013/10/31...d-restoration/ I have 2 of them that I'm going thru now, one needs the treadle foot and pitman arm, the other will remain electric. They are neat, wish I could find some attachments.

I have some attachments, but they are really rusty.

Watson58, I PM'd you...

Here's the attachments that came with my machine...think I'll just hang onto them for now. Thanks for everyone's comments. I will try to follow the cleaning instructions.

Here is my set

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps31f0ba2c.jpg

Three slide plate (race cover) 3/16", 1/4" and 5/8" hemmers,
Bed mount (shank) 1 1/4"
Bias Binder (mounts to the head)
Under Braider (has grove for different widths of braid)
Bed mount 1/8" hemmer
Gauge and Self Sewer
Ruffler
Automatic Scallop Plaiter
Tucker (mine was missing a screw and nut - got ones that fit now)

I also have the quilter (it's just a guide) though this one is different shaped them typical.

These is the complete set listed in the NVF manual I have - so you'll know what you are looking for. I see them come up on eBay occasionally, rarely listed as NVF though - usually just with an assortment of other attachments.
