The ad states the # and it dates 1889. Is this a good buy for 50.00?

If I understand correctly, the fiddle-base/bed machines are highly sought after. Looks like it might be a project but for $50....why not?

So that is a fiddle base! Yes, it does need some work but I enjoy that part. Thank you for the reply.

I agree, snatch that up.

It's a nice looking machine. The base does have some nice style to it and the decals are in good shape considering the age. It'll probably clean up pretty nicely.
I do have a question that I think is relevent. How hard is it to find shuttles and bobbins for the long bobbin machines? I know I've been a little intimidated by that end of it-especially after seeing what bobbin cases go for for more common machines like the 15 classes and featherweights. If they're missing the machine may be worth less money due to the issues of finding replacements to fit it. Thanks, Rodney |
Even if it doesn't work, it's a striking antique. I would see if the seller has wiggle room .

It appears to not have a moor boss, so putting a HC on it is impossible. Do you have a treadle cabinet for it? Old sewing machines are very common where I live, so I would not give over $10 for it. Similar ones on CL do not sell at any price.

Again...is that asking price, or selling price? There are many high priced machines, but no one buys them, and they can often be bought for less in a month or three. Ebay prices are higher because out of millions of viewers, there are bound to be some with deep pockets....(or no sense). I only keep an eye on CL prices, however.

I've noticed a lot of nice eBay machines are from the NE. However, the prices don't seem much lower than other areas and maybe a little higher. I would sure give more than $10 for a fiddle base.
