don't soak them in vinegar for so long. you will deoxidize the metal. that's what happened to my bobbin and bobbin case. not worth it at all soaking them in vinegar for so long.

There may have been something else going on, like a chemical interaction, what kind of container did you use? Most things that act against rust, convert iron oxide to something else, like iron phosphate. But yes, being a little cautious is a good idea.

I used Diet Coke. Does that make a difference?

i some how couldnt get myself to buy diet, in case i actually wound up drinking some of the stuff. However, if one wsnts cheap chemicals,, maybe I should have gone ahead and gotten some. ;-)
