Dismantling a Singer Featherweight 221.

[TD]Hi. Can someone tell me how to separate the top of a Singer Featherweight 221 from the bottom? I can see it has two pins and three screws holding the pieces together, but I can’t get the pins to separate from the top. I have oiled and swedged them.[/TD]

When I first read the post, I was hoping you meant taking the cover off the base of the machine to oil. Then, I saw the picture. I'm wondering why you were even trying to separate the arm/pillar from the base. I have done a lot of research and have three featherweights and never seen a separation like that. I am under the impression that even those that repaint featherweights do not separate the pillar from the bed. I'm fairly certain when it was being made, it was in two pieces. Does it wobble when you sew with it? I have a bunch of other questions, but not sure it would make a difference.

No expert by any means but they seem to be rivets to attach name/number badges, not to keep parts together.

Thanks for your reply. I have a 1954 Featherweight I just acquired. She has not been very well taken care of over the years. I’m doing a complete makeover, inside and out. I finally got the head and base separated yesterday ~ ��. We used some punches.
