Do you name your machines?

Named my latest machine Elvis - it's a blue Japanese Sovereign vintage - with a crown, for the King! Oh and the blue color? Well that's easy - Blue Suede Shoes of course!
Am I the only crazy one? Do you name your machines? this is my first thread. I love this board, thank you all so much! I have learned so many things from all of you! |
All my machines have names. My Juki is "Big Boy". My Pfaff is Baby and my featherweight is Suzie.
Like your name for your Featherweight littlehud that's my name too! My Featherweight is named Martin. Found him in a thrift store on Martin Luther King day for $27.00 dollars. One of the luckiest days of my life!
My 99K is "Thomas, the Tank", my older Vikings are Olaf and Sven(twins). The 99 Centennial is "Bertha". No name for the 128, 301, or FW yet. My Bernina's are Bernice and Bernard.
I have a 99K too mo-rie, "Thomas , the Tank" is a great name!! It's a little but hefty machine!
I name my machines, to many to list here,LOL
I am guilty too. Love your clone machine...what a smart looking one!
My black FW is Maggie May, have not named my white one (although Margaret or Memere after my Mom has come to mind) or any of my other machines. My car is Rosie (the roadster). We used to have a Previa mini van and it was the Mothership, one car I called Bertha.
I have not named mine.....but I have called them a few names that shouldnt be mentioned
I think that's the perfect name for your machine. Would love to have a great looking Japanese machine like yours but I don't know where I'd put it.
I have two machines, or three if you count the one I loaned to DD. only one , my FW, has a name. She's named after her original owner I call her my Little Ray of Sunshine. |
Let's see, Sara, Belle, Louella, Myrtle, Ginnie, Molly, Audrey, Velma. I don't name them till they are all cleaned, fixed, and being used. The other eight have to wait.

YES, I named her "GRACE".
My Bernina 830E is named, Lucy. We also named our Chevy HHR, Blue.
Yep, I name mine. Sarah the Singer, Payton the Pfaff, Bella the FW, Sofia the 301, and have a treadle (1917), a 15-clone not named yet~ :)
Yes, I have called mine that name a few times, when it unthreads of makes a mess on the back. Restraint is needed and sometimes it gets my blood hot. Are the initials "S_B"? I don't drink, but when it acts up, I consider starting.
My Janome 7700 is named Lucy.
Oh yes I name them, White peerless HC TxJan, singer vs2 Miss Patricia, 1916 Redeye Olga and 1908 Lotus Hilda and I could go on. They are named after a good friend and Grandma and Aunt Hilda. My Pathfinder by Davis is named Louis.

the kids in a school down south named my FW--Black Pearl. I sent some fabric and thread to a lady on the board who was teaching some military kids in school down there how to sew.

I name mine; any without a name did not impress me enough to earn their place. My favorite Singer 301 is JoyBoy, because he is a boy and a total joy on which to sew. My inherited Singer 301 is "Sandra's 301" because my best friend Sandra willed him to me. My pristine, perfect Pfaff 130 is Zeus, named after the mechanic's business (Zeus) who made sure he was in tip top shape before I got him. My everyday Pfaff is "Mrs. Fussy Pfaff" because she is so darn fussy to set up. She does precision sewing after that, however. My Bernina is Bernie. My WWII vintage blue Model 15 clone is called "Old Piecer". My Singer 401 is called a nasty name right now. He has been misbehaving. I just call my Featherweights Fxwt. I have other machines that are called by their manufacturer's designations. For instance, my Elna Grasshopper is called Grasshopper.
Yesterday I got a brand new Janome, a lightweight machine to take to classes. What a great machine! My girlfriend is drooling. Now I have to see if it is a boy or girl and then find a name. If it's a girl, maybe it will be Janie. Any other suggestions? I also name cars. |

Love all the awesome answers, thanks!
Cricket congrats on your new Janome. A lightweight machine seems to me needs to be named after a lightweight boxer - how about Sugar Ray? Lol |
my machines are Ruthie the Singer 66 red eye treadle, Millicent is the Singer 115 treadle,Mickey is the Singer 237 treadle,Gertrude is the Pfaff 60 treadle,Karie is the 15-90 treadle, Randy is the 201K treadle.
Freddy is the tan FW,Patty is the 1957 FW, Peggy Sue is the 1947 FW and Barbara Ann is the Bernina 1031 and Robby is the Pfaff 1222E and Diane is the Bernina 930 |
I've only named one of my machines...the little black Featherweight 221 that I have named Laura Leigh. Sounds kind of like an old fashioned name. Love seeing what other people have named their machines. I don't use the FW very much but it is such a good machine!
No, but I do name my cars. The VW was " The Blue Flame " and my grey Honda Pilot is "Frosty".
I have not named my Quartet yet. I'm waiting for inspiration. I do have Millie the featherweight and Opal the Janome Jem (760). Mr. Ken Moore is the Kenmore. the latest one is Flora, a Singer 413, named after my grandmother because it was originally her machine.

I don't name my machines either....have so many different ones, I just refer to them as the janome, the featherweight, the old white & my daughter's white. The vintage singer(s) & Kenmore new and Kenmore old----shhh DH doesn't know there's more than one of the singers & kenmores. Maybe I purposely don't name them so I can refer to more than one and not have to answer for having so many machines!! |
The ones I use regularly have names. Some of the others have names. And I am guilty of occasionally calling them names not fit to be printed or said. I have many unnamed ones too. My 301 is Rebeckah and the FW is Betsy and I have a Rosie but cannot remember for sure which 201 that one is. I have a machine made in Occupied Japan that has a Japanese name that I cannot recall off the top of my head.
my big quilting machine is "flowing stitch" and I call her Flo.....I'm Italian not Indian
I named my Bernina 830E Sybil...for obvious reasons.
My newest machine is a Brother and his name is Oliver and he is one handsome dude and he stitches well!
He knows how to keep me happy. Ya' I know I am a dork and just can't help myself! I also have a old VW Beetle named Vera Wang. She looks like a Vera but not a Wang. |
The comments on here are hilarious! I haven't really named mine yet. Unless you'd deem that me calling my Singer 328K "Old Faithful" 'cause for sure that machine has been ever faithful. Just doesn't let me down, and I used to sew a lot more than I do now! That machine was the very first one I ever had to call my own -- my husband gifted me with that one the very first Christmas we were married (in 1963). Whoa. Nellie, that's been a loooonnnnnnggggg time!

Jeanette what a good husband!!
i like to name my machines, its fun, and lord knows i see enough sadness every day at work, that a little lighthearted fun and sharing the love of machines cannot be a bad thing. I'm amazed at the number of machines I've collected since I started this thread, I have named every one. So many are music related. I named one after the late great Eydie Gorme, one Lucille for BBKings guitar, and one Layla for that great Eric Clapton song about a woman he and George Harrison both loved. thanks for sharing your story! |
Elvis! Great name for your Blue Suede Shoe color machine. I have a thing for blue machines.
My latest machine is Fred after the Mystery Machine in the Scooby Doo cartoons because he was a mystery as to what he was until Mizkaki identified him. He is a 215G Singer made in Germany.
