My semi weekly visit to Goodwill produced a new girl to add to my little collection of vintage sewing machines. I almost passed her up because she was in a plastic case that had a tag on it for $19.99. But thank goodness my curiousity got the better of me. With my senior citizen discount the cost was $17.99 plus the governor's share.

She is very clean, everything turns smoothly and the wiring and foot pedal looks pretty good. I asked my DD what we should name her and she suggested Peggy Sue because she is looks like a 50's gal. Oh yes, the bonus was the wooden spool of thread and the red spool thingys.

Peggy Sue or Oh Donna are perfect 50's names. Enjoy her.

Really sweet! She is basically the same machine as my new blue babies only wearing a different dress - she will sew beautifully for you!

Yes, she does sew well. I cleaned, oiled and plugged her in yesterday. I would like a blue baby also.

I alao found a Dressmaker for $5 - The model number is Model 590 and serial # 0386, but can't find a manual for it.
Did you get one with yours? And, were there any attachments? I'm still on the hunt!

Does yours have the tensioner on the side like the one posted? If so, then you can basically follow the manual for a Singer model 15. I bought one, at a thrift store, that looks very similar to the one in the original post ( I added a pic) and it my favorite machine, right now :). It sews so smoothly.

I couldn't figure out know how to thread it but Muv has a Youtube video showing how to thread a model 15 and those directions worked for me. Good luck with yours.

ETA: Here is the link to her video. She is using a treadle machine but it's still the same:

You can download a generic pdf manual here. It takes short shank attachments which are easy to find.
