Electrical issue or?
3 Attachment(s)
I looked at this Wizard yesterday in a thrift store. Aside from being covered with oily dirt, it was missing the foot pedal. It has two power cords running off the back side. The seller assured me that it ran fine, and plugged one of the cords into an outlet, causing the machine to zig-zag merrily along at a high speed!
This seemed wrong, somehow, so I didn't ultimately buy the machine. Also, they wanted $25 which I thought was a bit much for that much work! So - why would the machine run when plugged into an outlet but without a foot control? Does that sound like an easy fix or some horrible electrical thing that will eventually electrocute the shop owner as he demonstrates its workability? I will say that I am attracted to pretty colors (what quilter isn't?) and I wouldn't mind having the Wizard if I thought I could get it to work. At a reduced price, of course - no accessories or manual, either. Or case cover. Any thoughts from the Wise Ones here? Thanks! |
Margaret,
The machine is not in the correct style of box. It should be in a base with a compartment on the right end. In that compartment normally is found a cord block with two outlets. One for the motor, one for the light. One wire from the cord block goes to the wall socket, the other end to the foot controller. The cord block is missing. The machine probably has no mechanical problems, but as it sits it's unusable. This is the type of cord block set up it should have: { http://www.shop.sew-classic.com/Cord...143-SCE143.htm } Joe |
It has potential. Perhaps look under the machine - tip it backward - there may be goodies underneath it, maybe a foot pedal.

I love the look of that machine! I'd probably have brought it home. :)
I hope you get it, and for a good deal! |
I'll have to check on the cord block. Nothing underneath but more dirt! If it's still there in a few days I might get it.
