Feather Weight ?

I found a black FW for 250.00 dollars motor runs but needle moves slow so I know it needs to be cleaned. No case and no extra attachments. Is it worth 250.00? AF 262275 Does anybody know wher I can get info I tried Ismacs and no luck. Also I found a fiddle base in a cabnet that is in rough shape for 100.00 #10054716 any info would be great on either one of these machines.

Look on ebay for the going rates. Really, it depends on how much YOU are willing to pay to decide worth of something. I generally am pretty stingy when it comes to buying machines. LOL.

I think $250 is a good price to pay for a featherweight that is running really good and with a case, attachments, manual, etc. There are too many out there to pay that much for one that is running slow! Just my opinion (from watching ebay and craigslist).

I agree with TinkerQuilts - there are too many out there for that price or less with all the attachments and case. You may have to pay over $100.00 to fix the slow issue and if you want a case that can be another $60.00 - so I would recommend that you pass on this one unless they drop the price to $150.00 or lower.

also, make sure that when you check e-bay, you check the -sold- prices. (There's an option when you do an advanced search) There are a lot of vendors on there that want you to be their retirement plan. Just searching for a featherweight on e-bay will skew what they're worth. You can ask for $1 million for a featherweight, but you're never going to get it. The person trying to price one on craigslist though will see that one and think they're offering a "deal" at $750, 000.

$250 is a little high if there isn't a case and it's moving slowly. I've gotten 3 machines here in Michigan, all in very good condition. The most I paid was $225 and that one had a lot of extra attachments. The other two were much cheaper... $100, and they run perfectly. I know it seems like there aren't any out there when you're looking for that 1st precious FW but they are there and you just have to look in lots of places and be ready to snatch it up when it appears. Good luck.

My son got me a featherweight for Christmas and it ran slow, too. Turned out it was the wrong voltage for this country and I had to get a voltage converter. Now it runs great! (The seller said I could return it, but since my son did the research and chose it, I am doing everything I can to keep it.)

it depends what local quilters are willing to pay for them (and what you'd be willing to spend). My guess is that's the asking price, not necessarily the best deal you can get.

I have 2 and paid $100 and $105 for them. Both in good shape and running well. I don't think I'd pay that for one that runs slow, although a good cleaning along with some oil and grease would probably speed it up.

most of the time they run slow because they need to have the motor greased, belt changed and adjusted properly and the rest of the machine oiled. Its not expensive to do this yourself.
