featherweight bobbin case

I have been using a Centennial Featherweight and just recently started having trouble with it. The thread jumps out of the bobbin case. I cleaned everything, took the upper tension apart and cleaned that. I thought everything was back to normal. It didn’t take too long until the thread started jumping out of the bobbin case again. I didn’t realize it was happening until I noticed the top thread was very tight and I could just slide it out of the line of stitching.

I am going to try a different bobbin case to see if that will help, but I would like to fix this one also, if the bobbin case is the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas about why this is happening and what to do to prevent it?

The screw to tighten the tension is too tight to tighten that. I cannot pull the thread out of the guides in the bobbin.

Thanks, Pam

I first of all have not had this problem with my FW. I have seen a number of Videos on YouTuble that address this issue. Here is one such video from the FW shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUUFFAn9DSs The Featherweight Shop is a great place to start.

Also since I just looked up from typing I see this is the first time you have joined us here and I want to take this time to welcome you to the QB. There are a whole lot of FW folks on the board. Again welcome to the QB.

Have you done the bobbin drop test? It sounds as if your bobbin tension might be too tight. Here's a video that describes how to do one.
I'm certainly no expert, but that last line of your post sounds like a bobbin tension issue.

Thank you, I will check this out.

I had already checked the Featherweight Shops video. My tension is beautiful until the thread jumps out of the bobbin case. This is a new issue. I have been using this particular machine for years without any problems.

I am using a different bobbin case and so far so good. The tension on both cases seem to be about the same.

Are you using original Featherweight bobbins? Some of the reproduction bobbins are faulty.

So, what does "I cannot pull the thread out of the guides in the bobbin" mean?

yes, these are original bobbin cases and bobbins.

I can't replicate the thread jumping out of the guides by pulling it every which way. When my stitching becomes messed up, when I remove the bobbin case, the thread is not in the last guide anymore.

Have you tried other thread since this started. Sometimes threads mess up.

I thought I used different threads but now I am not so sure. I will experiment with this. Thanks!
