I'm looking for a pattern or an idea to make a soft carrying case for my featherweight for taking it to class. I have an original case, but I don't like using it and the handle is weak, also I think the closures are not too good. I would rather have a soft case so I can put the foot controller and cord separetly, I think the plug end may have put a scratch on the top of it while in the hard case.

I would like to make a quilted case for it, what does everyone think?

I think as long as you use something very sturdy to keep the bottom from sagging it would be fine. I'd use a piece of masonite, paneling or thin plywood with rounded off corners if it were me. I'd also make some pockets inside and out for supplies. I've used pre-quilted fabric for totes and carriers with great success. You can go as fancy or as plain as you like. Personally I like to make at least one pocket large enough for magazines or notebooks for patterns, some for my cutters, cutting mats, rulers, etc. You might want one that has some form of gussetted bottom for the foot pedal and cord. Just remember, it's not rocket science--regular people have been designing these things for years. Take the time to decide exactly what you want it to hold and make your pattern to suit yourself.

ps: I would also use the handle strapping all the way underneath for added strength.

I was thinking of using a "carry on" piece of luggage that has a handle and is on wheeles. Decorate it and personalize it.

Thanks Donnajean, but I do have a large soft sided case on wheels for my Brother QC machine. I am really looking for something small or just big enough for only the featherweight and the foot pedal.

You can buy one for $39.95 made for Featherweights. They have them at my LQS here in Kalamazoo.

I made a little bag for my featherweight cords, so that they are contained and don't scratch anything. Also I've made a sleeve for the end of the bed so that the face plate screw doesn't scratch or ding my machine.
I service featherweights as a small business and make these for my customers using their machines so they can see that their machines sew properly now.

Yes, purplefiend, that's a great idea, I think I can handle the sleeve thing, also my DH gave me a sturdy tool bag that fits the machine perfectly, but I was thinking of a quilted covering for the rest of the machine to make the case padded.
