Featherweight dent
 

Does every FW have a dent in the bed where it folds up and hits a big screw? Did the machines come originally with something to protect the bed from this happening? I now put a pad of cloth over the screw as I close it up but there is already a hole in the finish.

When I first got my FW I had it serviced. The woman who serviced it for me put a little felt pad on the screw so that it wouldn't damage the bed. It works great.

There are all kinds of nice and facy stuff for the Featherweight, solutions for everything.

A lot of them do. A felt pad, rubber dot etc...will work, or many people make a cover for the flip down bed.

I stuck one of the nonslip dots that are used under cutting rulers onto the screw to protect the bed a little.

Also, when I made a soft carry bag to take the machine to workshops, I included a flap at the end of it that is tucked down between the flipped up bed and the screw on the machine.

I have made yo yo's and put a pad of cotton in them to protect my featherweights from getting dents.

I make a bed "cozy" for my featherweights. I fashion a bag with sturdy straps that wrap completely around the bottom of the bag for safety. That done after reading about someone carrying hers in a grocery store reusable on her shoulder and the bottom gave way :eek:. I also make an open-ended bag for the cord and pedal so I can slip it through the harp for storage without risking scratching.

Thanks for the photos. I don’t have a dent and don’t want one. Maybe a project to make over the holidays.

If you decide to make a sleeve, make it long enough to go under the foot. I did mine this way to cushion the foot when I travel and it also keeps it in place. As I said this is just a FMQ practice piece that I used and I left the bottom edge open so it could split at the bottom. I did sew on seam binding at the bottom to cover the raw edges.[ATTACH=CONFIG]603718[/ATTACH]

baskets4moo: thanks for the pictures. I like the idea of a bag for the foot as mine seems to be too tightly squeezed on the end to fit in the tray.
tartan: I really like the idea of putting the cover under the pressure foot, I haven't thought or heard of that idea. I actually have plans to make a bag and sleeve but am waiting for a merchant to come up from Yuma with a leather needle as I decided I would like leather on the bottom so I can set it down when taking it to classes.

Mine doesn't. but I don't use my FW, and I have been very careful when I have put it into the case. My 301 long bed is almost 1/2" from the body when raised. That being said I have plans to make a cover for my 301 long bed -- just in case.
