Featherweight Light Is Hot

The light on my FW seems to run very hot. Is this normal?

I frequently use that machine with the neighborhood children who sew at my house. We make a habit of turning off the light unless actually sewing with the machine for safety purposes just because it heats up so quickly. Being in the front of the machine, it really does present a safety hazard.

I am interested in hearing if other FW owners experience the same thing.

Thanks!

Dayle

Does it have the right size bulb in it? Maybe that is the problem. Mine does not get hot like that.

Yes I have a 221 FW and the bulb does get hot.

I have a 2nd Degree burn scar on my right hand due to a hot sewing machine bulb. They are very hot. However make sure it's cool and check it to make sure it's no more than a 15W bulb. Any larger wattage is too much.

Thanks! I will check the bulb. I didn't know the recommended wattage.

Mine gets hot, too. I haven't checked the wattage and it's the same bulb that was in it when I bought it years ago. I turn it off if I'm not actually sewing, also.

I believe it is just the way it is. I haven't heard of anyone coming out with the different bulb - it's the same kind they had back in the 40's & 50's. You can take it off and put on one of those LED goose neck lamps that sticks on the machine.

Mine gets warm but so hot as to burn. I have made sure I only out the right lite in though

Mine gets hot as well. Can't check bulb as it is in at present for a PAT, electrical safety check, before I take to classes with me. In UK we have become health and safety mad.

My Featherweight light bulb gets fairly hot but my light on my 201 gets extremely hot. These lights could definitely burn you so a stick on LED light may be the best way to go.
